The recent deaths of African Americans, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, at the hands of white police officers, has spurred a rallying cry for racial justice heard around the world. The last few weeks in May and June have seen unprecedented acts of civil unrest as America grapples with racism and inequity issues. The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice, is seeking structural changes to expand democracy and eliminate disparities. By defending the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle, they are also working to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
Gifts to LDF will help to advance their efforts to protect voting rights, reform our criminal justice system, achieve educational equity, and ensure economic justice for all, helping to fulfill the promise of equality for all Americans.
Our practice here at UUSM is to dedicate half of our non-pledge Sunday offerings to organizations doing work in the world that advances our Unitarian Universalist principles; the other 50% of the offering is used to support the life of our church.
UUSM’s Generous Congregation supports our church community. And together, we uplift the reach and impact of vital organizations doing work we could not do on our own. During June, half of our Sunday offerings will go to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Your donation will show our appreciation for those who are being impacted even as they continue to lead and strengthen our congregations. It is a concrete way to show support and love to the staff and communities most impacted by racial inequities.
Please consider supporting the mission of our church, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. To give right now, text “$10 GCC” (or another amount) to 844-982-0209. (One-time-only credit card registration required.)
